Wedding Jewellery Timeline: What to Order 6 Months, 3 Months and 1 Month Before

Wedding jewellery takes longer than most people expect, especially if you want custom pieces. Leave it too late, and choices shrink while stress grows. This timeline explains what to decide, order and collect at each stage, from six months out to the last week.

Six months out

This is the planning stage. Six months gives you time for custom work and lets you spread purchases.

• Check family jewellery. Decide what will be worn as it is, remade or exchanged. See Heirloom Remaking.
• Research and shortlist jewellers, and book first consultations.

• Start buying key ready pieces, spreading purchases across months.

If your wedding falls in a busy wedding season, starting even earlier is wise.

Three months out

By now, your outfits should be taking shape, so you can match jewellery to them.

• Finalise outfits or at least colours and fabrics, and bring swatches to consultations.
• Buy the remaining main pieces, including earrings, bangles and head ornaments.
• Check on custom orders and approve any design details.

One month out

This is the fitting and finishing stage.

• Collect custom pieces and check them carefully.
• Try everything on with your outfits, ideally in a full trial.
• Resize rings and bangles and adjust necklace lengths.
• Buy any final small pieces, such as hair ornaments and toe rings.
• Arrange secure storage for all jewellery until the wedding.

The last week

Keep this week calm and simple.

• Have pieces cleaned and polished so they look their best in photographs.
• Lay out jewellery by ceremony, in labelled boxes or pouches.
• Assign a trusted person to manage jewellery on the wedding day.
• Keep invoices and certificates together in a safe place.
• Avoid last-minute purchases unless absolutely necessary.
